As reported and confirmed by a number of sources, Google has removed all right hand side AdWords ads from their search result page.
Since last Friday Ad placements in Google’s search results are now top and bottom only with the possibility of showing an additional (fourth) ad on top for certain search results. This is a global change rolling out to all countries in all languages.
It is worth noting that PLA (product listing advertisements) will remain in the right hand side along with the knowledge graph.
We have had confirmation from our Google representative that this change has taken place and we are waiting on an official statement.
Welcome to your new search engine result page:
How this is likely to affect advertisers
- Competitive keywords are likely to see an average CPC increase, ensuring keywords have a high quality score and having highly relevant keywords and landing pages are essential.
- Keywords that have a position lower than four will likely see a big drop in click through rate, while on the other side, keywords with a position four or higher will see the opposite effect.
- Google maps / my business results still appear above the fold on most desktop sizes. It’s more important than ever to have a Google Mybusiness listing and to keep it optimised.
We are currently carefully observing the impact of this change across our accounts and will be able to provide insights in the following days / weeks.
